PHS/EHD has
prepared the following comments for your consideration.
Lindsay Street
The work plan was proposed to investigate soil contamination beneath Lindsay Street
which was evidenced at 26 feet below grade during the 1993 tank replacement and over-
excavation. Soil contamination was evidenced in samples collected from beneath the
bottom of the excavation and the northern and southern sidewalls. The work plan
proposed two soil borings that appear to be located in the area of documented soil
contamination and should evaluate the vertical extent of soil contamination. Additional
investigation may be necessary to determine the horizontal extent of the residual
southern sidewall contamination.
Should field conditions warrant, the proposed soil borings will be converted into vadose
wells which may be used for soil remediation. The work plan proposed to collect soil
samples every five feet for laboratory analysis beginning at 20 feet below grade.
PHS/EHD recommends that soil samples be collected for analysis beginning at 15 feet
and collected every 2.5 foot intervals. Soil samples to be analyzed should be selected
based on field observations and should adequately characterize the distribution of soil
contaminants.
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
