Each day, prior to field work, the field geologist conducted a tailgate safety meeting to ensure <br /> proper site safety meeting to ensure proper site safety precautions were identified and also to <br /> conform to the IT site specific health and safety plan <br /> The borings were drilled on February 3, 4, and 5 1993, by representatives from Kvilhaug <br /> Well Drilling and Pump Company, Inc (C-57 license #482390) All drilling was performed <br /> with a steam cleaned, 8 0.1) inch hollow stem auger. Boreholes were drilled to a depth of <br /> 50-55 feet below grade to facilitate soil and groundwater sample collection. <br /> 2.2 Soil Sampling <br />' All subsurface materials were described using the visual method of the Unified Soil <br /> Classification System (USCS) as described in United States Bureau of Reclamation document <br /> No 5005-86 Boring logs are included in Appendix A Samples were collected utilizing a <br /> split spoon sampler advanced usirig a 140 lb hammer. The sampler contained brass tubes for <br /> collection of undisturbed samples The sampler and brass tubes were decontaminated by <br /> scrubbing with a non-phosphate detergent, triple rinsed with tap water, rinsed with methanol <br /> followed by a distilled water rinse. Soil samples were collected every five feet Select <br /> evadose zone samples were submitted for laboratory analysis in order to provide a vertical <br /> hydrocarbon distribution profile <br /> Each soil sample retained for analysis was described, and promptly sealed with aluminum <br /> foil, plastic end caps and tape The samples were then placed in a "ziploc" bag, sealed with <br /> security tape and hand delivered to the IT Field Analytical Services on-site laboratory <br /> Chain-of-Custody records were maintained for all samples (Appendix B) <br /> The samples were analyzed utilizing the methods and detection limits shown below <br /> 1 <br /> ' DETECTION LLGT <br /> ANALYSIS NAME METHOD (Ppm) <br /> BTEX (benzene, toluene, EPA modified 8020 0.005 <br /> ethylbenzene, total xylenes) <br /> TPH as diesel DHS GC-FID 1 <br /> ' modified 8015 <br /> NOTE: TPH = Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons <br /> Copies of signed laboratory reports are presented m Appendix C <br /> ' M7103-16.93/ENG/93-0034if 3 <br />
