encountered in the monitoring wells during the December sampling or in any of the boreholes
sampled in February
3.3 Soil Quality Data
In June 1990, two diesel UST's (300 gallon and 550 gallon) located beneath the on-site
building (Figure 2) were closed in place by triple rinsing, pumping fluid and filling with
cement slung A sora boring was hand bored beneath the building near the abandoned tanks
Analysis of soil samples collected from this boring revealed diesel concentrations up to
13,000 ppm
Soil samples collected from the three groundwater monitoring wells (MW-1, MW-2 and MW-
3) revealed no detectable diesel concentrations upon analysis. Volatile hydrocarbons were
encountered in a soil sample collected at 40 feet below grade in downgradient well MW-1
(toluene at 0.005 ppm and xylenes at 0 005 ppm) and in a soil sample collected at 20 feet
below grade in upgradiient well MW-3 (ethylbenzene at 0.006 ppm and xylenes at 0.013
ppm) Gasoline was additionally reported for the sample collected from well MW-3,
however, the petroleum hydrocarbons encountered did not match the gasoline standard.
Several QA/QC anomalies were encountered during analysis of tins sample which are
addressed in a letter enclosed in Appendix D
Analysis of soil samples collected from boreholes SB-1 through SB-6 revealed no detectable
e
diesel or volatile hydrocarbon concentrations Analytical results are listed in Table 2 and
depicted in Figure 4.
3.4 Groundwater Quality Data
No groundwater was encountered in the soil borings, drilled to an approximate depth of 17
feet, adjacent to the 300 and 550 gallon diesel tanks. These tanks were closed in place
December 1990
Groundwater samples collected from down and side-gradient monitoring wells MW-1 and
MW-2 following well development in December 1991, revealed diesel concentrations at 130
ppb and 52 ppb respectively No diesel concentrations were encountered ui the sample
collected from well MW-3. No volatile petroleum hydrocarbons were encountered in any
well during the December 1991 sampling. The monitoring wells have been subsequently
MZ/03-17-93/irNG/93-0034 ff 6
