INTERNATIONAL TECHNOLOGY CORPORATION
Ms Mary Maeys 3 January 15, 1996
' currently exists, however, the 96 ppb modeled value is below the 100 ppb
SNARL value No detectable concentrations of the regulated BTEX
' constituents have ever been encountered in any of the Location 2 samples.
Copies of the input files, graphical, and tabular V-Leach modeling results are
enclosed in Attachment 4 0
' Issue D Provide calculation sheets for each location (pages 8 and 10 of IT Site Closure
Recommendation Report, April 1995) and verify conversion factor of 7.48
' gal/1 fe.
Response D Calculation sheets for the average residual diesel volume for Location 1
(beneath the abandoned USTs in the building basement) can be found in
Attachment 10 of this report.
' The table listing current analytical data for Location 2 (beneath the Lindsay
Street sidewalk), which was used to define the maximum current diesel fuel
concentration, is provided in Attachment 2.0 of this report
Calculation sheets for the average historical residual diesel volume for
Location 2 (beneath the Lindsay Street sidewalk) can be found in Attachment
3 0 of this report
' Figures depicting the plan view and cross-sectional views of Locations 1 and 2,
which were used to calculate the volume of impacted sod., are provided in the
"Figures" attachment of this report.
' The reference for the conversion factor used in the maximum volume of
residual diesel in soil calculations (pages 8 and 10 of the IT Site Closure
' Recommendation Report) is provided in Attachment 5 0 of this report.
Issue E Explain the rationale for applying ethylbenzene and xylene concentrations to
modeled areas
Response E Table 1, contained in Attachment 1.0 of this report, is a summary of all
' analytical data collected to date at Location 1 (near abandoned USTs in
building basement). A total of seven samples were analyzed for benzene,
toluene, ethyl benzene, and xylenes (BTEX). Of these seven samples, only
three contained detectable xylenes and only one contained detectable ethyl
benzene No detectable benzene or toluene concentrations were encountered.
As only one concentration of ethyl benzene was encountered, this value was
' used for modeling purposes. Since three detectable xylene concentrations were
encountered, the greatest detected concentration was used during modeling.
