3.0 SOIL REMEDIATION INFORMATION
Based on the results of soil sampling from beneath Tanis A, soil under the eastern end of the
tar)k contained 2,000 ppm of TPH-as-gasoline On April 4, 1990, AEMC remediated the
impacted soil by excavating a total of 78 cubic yards to a total depth of 25 feet bgs
Since the confirmation soil samples were deemed invalid by PHS/EHD, AEMC drilled SB-1
through the excavation backfill and re-sampled native soil to document soil conditions at the
base of the excavation Soil samples collected for analysis from SB-1 revealed TPH-as-gasoline
at a concentration of 12 ppm at 29 feet bgs and 4 4 ppm at 29 5 feEt bgs These results confirm
that the extent of impacted soil was successfully removed during the excavation
Approximately 78 cubic yards of excavated soil were spread on-site for aeration Fallowing
1 aeration, the soil was probably used to backfill the excavation Disposition of the excavated soil
is not documented in the regulatory files
Based on the following, active groundwater remediation has not been conducted at the site
• Concentrations of gasoline hydrocarbons in groundwater have been moderately low,
Future potential impact to groundwater has been eliminated by source removal
i
6
