1 <br /> 1.0 Introduction <br />' IT Corporation (IT) has prepared this Groundwater Monitoring Report for the fourth quarter <br /> 1996 groundwater monitoring and sampling event conducted at the former Fabncare site located <br />' at 711 South San Joaquin Street in the city of Stockton (San Joaquin County), California (Figure <br /> 1) This report was prepared for the San Joaquin County Public Health Services Environmental <br /> Health Division (PHS/EHD) as requested by Mr Anthony Varni, Esq of Varm, Fraser, Hartwell <br />' & Rodgers <br /> 2,0 Previous Work <br /> The site is a former textile processing and dyeing facility which utilized four(4) underground <br /> storage tanks (USTs), Tank A through Tank D Tank B, a 10,000 gallon diesel UST, was <br /> abandoned in place by Fabricare in 1974, prior to the enactment of current UST regulations On <br /> December 1, 1988, soil bonngs were drilled in the vicinity of Tanks C and D, both 5,000 gallon <br /> diesel USTs Laboratory results from these soil borings indicate that low concentrations of <br />' toluene were present in the soil in the vicinity of Tanks C and D Tanks C and D were removed <br /> from the site circa 1991 <br />• Tank A was excavated and removed in January of 1989 Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons TP <br />' as gasoline was detected at 2,000 parts per million(ppm) in a soil sample collected from the east <br /> end of the tank excavation Low concentrations of ethylbenzene, toluene, and xylenes were also <br /> detected in this soil sample A sample collected from the west end of the excavation did not <br /> contain detectable concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons On August 2 and 3, 1989, one <br /> continuously cored soil boring and four other soil borings were drilled in the vicinity of the Tank <br />' A excavation to define the vertical and horizontal extent of impacted soil Toluene was the only <br /> petroleum hydrocarbon constituent present in soil samples collected from these borings The <br /> Tank A excavation was extended on April 4, 1990 Soil samples from this over-excavation were <br /> improperly collected and deemed invalid On July 2, 1990, three groundwater monitoring wells <br /> (MW-1 through MW-3) were installed in the vicinity of the Tank A excavation In addition, one <br /> soil boring (SB-1) was placed in the former excavation to venfy the presence of clean backfill <br /> Toluene was detected in soil at a concentration of 0 077 ppm at a depth of 15 feet below ground <br /> surface (bgs) m MW-1 TPH-gaso line was detected in soil from SB-1 at a concentration of 12 <br /> ppm under the east end of the former Tank A at a depth of 30 feet bgs <br /> 1 <br />
