TASK 2 - Geophysical Exploration
Due to the presence of shallow bedrock, a seismic refraction survey will
be conducted at the site to determine the thickness of soils overlying
hard sandstone. In addition, the survey will indicate the rippability
of the underlying rocks. This data will provide an indication of the
amount of soil available for landfill cover material and for retention
structures, if required.
TASK -
3 Seismicity Study
The seismicity of the site and vicinity will be evaluated to determine
the Maximum Probable Earthquake and its expected peak ground accelera-
tion. The study will consider regional as well as local seismic condi-
tions. The information developed in this study is to be used to perform
stability analyses of intermediate and find] landfill, embankment, and
cut slopes, and to design stable leachate control and associated fea-
tures.
TASK 4:- Exploratory Drilling
Six aory borings will be drilled to complement the six borings
that have already been drilled at the site. Proposed approximate
loca-tions are shown on Figure II-1. ' Three borings will be approximately
i' 40 feet deep and three others will be approximately 135 to 160 feet .
dee
p p. The three deep borings will be converted to monitoring wells and
two of the shallow borings will be converted to
permeameters. Withthese borings we will 1 confirm
( ) the thickness of soil overlying bed-
' - rock, (2) describe encountered soils
(using the Unified Soil Classifi-
fl
N cation System) and bedrock, (3) obtain representative soil , bedrock, and
:.y ground-water samples for testing, and (4) explore ground-water condi-
tions.
K
L' J;•'
PPA 8610-226 II-3
 r
4 Emcon Associates
