groundwater. One additional soil sample will be collected at each site
and assessed for soil permeability and general minerals to aid in
remediation planning.
Groundwater samples from UST Site 517 will be analyzed for TPH-
diesel and TPH-gasoline by USEPA Method 8015 (Modified) and for
BTEX by USEPA Method 602. In addition to the analyses mentioned
above, groundwater samples from UST 816D and Sumps 617 and 816D
will be analyzed for VOCs, SVOCs, and PCBs. Field-filtered
groundwater samples will also be analyzed for total lead by USEPA
Method 7421. One sample at each site will be analyzed for general
minerals, iron, and magnesium, which will assist in remediation
planning. In addition to the groundwater analyses mentioned above,
any monitoring well which can supply more than 200 gallons per day
should be analyzed for total dissolved solids (TDS).
Methods of preparation and analysis of the principal soil and
groundwater samples are summarized in Table 2 along with the target
detection limits.
Decontamination Procedures
The purpose of decontamination and cleaning procedures during
drilling, monitoring well installation, and sampling tasks is to prevent
chemical contamination of the samples and cross-contamination
between locations and sites. Before use, all sampling and drilling
equipment will be decontaminated by steam cleaning or, alternatively,
by washing with a non-phosphate detergent such as Liquinox or its
equivalent. A double tap water rinse and single deionized water rinse
will follow the detergent wash.
Purge Water Containment and Disposal
The water from well development, purging, and decontamination
procedures will be stored on site in labeled 55-gallon drums pending
results of groundwater analyses. All drums will be marked clearly with
labels stating date of collection and the phrase "Pending Analytical
Results." If BTEX concentrations in the groundwater are in excess of
the Maximum Concentration Levels (MCLS) for California Drinking
Water Standards, the drummed water will be treated and/or disposed
of in accordance with applicable state and local regulations. If the
collected water meets the requirements of General Order 91-25000 for
the discharge of waste water, a report of waste discharge (RWD) will be
filed with the RWQCB. Upon approval of the RWD, the waste water
will be dispose of appropriately.
4-10
