Box Q FERMIT/SERVICES
Woodbridge, CA 95258
SUBJECT: Request to Excavate Contaminated Soil to a Depth of 33 Feet at
107 N. School Street
The City Manager asked me to respond to your attached letter of November 16,
1987. The City of Lodi is not in a position to approve or disapprove your
proposed concept outlined in your letter for removal of contaminated soil .
However, for an excavation to a depth of this magnitude, the City would
require a grading permit per the requirements of Chapter 70 of the Uniform
Building Code. If you do desire to excavate, the Building Department will
issue a grading permit under the following conditions:
1. Submittal of a plan prepared by a civil engineer showing:
A. Site plan including property lines; structures on the property
and adjacent properties; curb, gutter, sidewalk; street
B. Proposed limits of excavation area
C. Method of excavation
D. Method of protecting existing buildings, curb, gutter,
sidewalk, street improvements, and adjacent property
E. Proposed method of backfill and backfill requirements
F. How pedestrian traffic will be rerouted and/or protected
G. How storm water will be handled during winter months
H. If groundwater is contacted, how it will be handled.
Once the City receives the excavation plan, there may also be need for an
encroachment permit if work is to be done in the public right of way (no
cost for this permit) and there may be an insurance requirement and the
posting of a bond to guarantee that the work is completed properly.
