S)
31 January 2000
AGE-NC Project No 97-0290
Page 4of10
3 1 PERMITTING, PLANNING AND PRE-FIELD WORK ACTIVITIES
Applicable permits will be obtained from the PHS-EHD and the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution
Control District (SJVAPCD) prior to initiation of the remediation project A site health and safety
plan is currently on-file with the PHS-EHD Prior to drilling activities, each proposed boring location
will be clearly marked and an utility clearance obtained through Underground Service Alert
3 2 INSTALLATION OF REMEDIATION WELLS
An SVE system in conjunction with an IAS system is proposed to reduce petroleum hydrocarbon
mass within the "core"petroleum hydrocarbon-impacted area at the site In order to maximize the
efficiency of the clean-up efforts, a 24-hour operation of the system is planned A typical destruction
rate of greater than 95%of hydrocarbon vapors is expected throughout the entire cleanup duration
Six additional SVE wells and seven additional IAS wells will be installed at the site to supplement
remediation efforts of the "core"petroleum hydrocarbon impacted area at the site Three of the SVE
wells and five of the IAS wells will be installed at an angle to provide remediation south of the site
Proposed SVE and IAS well locations are illustrated in Figure 3
3 3 INSTALLATION OF SOIL VAPOR EXTRACTION/AIR SPARGE PIPING SYSTEM
Two-inch diameter, schedule 40 PVC piping will be installed from the SVE well heads to the vapor
extraction unit, one-inch diameter, schedule 40 PVC piping will be installed from the IAS well heads
to an air compressor Valves will be installed to allow flow control for each well independently The
proposed SVE and IAS unit locations are illustrated in Figure 3
34 SOIL VAPOR EXTRACTION SYSTEM START-UP PERIOD
During the SVE start-up period(first week of operation), influent and effluent vapor concentrations
will be collected on a daily basis to ensure optimal destruction of recovered hydrocarbon vapors
Operational parameters(air flow, combustion temperature, volume of processed vapor, oxygen level
and the lower explosive limits (%LEL) will be monitored dally during the start-up period
3 5 MONITORING AND MAINTENANCE ACTIVITIES
Vapor samples from the influent and effluent will be collected on a monthly basis and submitted to
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc
