hollow-stem continuous-flight auger and the soils will be sampled
with a California-modified split-spoon sampler (See Attachment 1
for Condor's soil boring procedures) . A single soil sample will
be collected from each boring from just below the backfill/native
soil interface at a depth of about 23 feet. A single sample of
backfill material will be collected in each boring installed
through the backfill. A sixth boring will be drilled immediately
to the north of the site of the 250 gallon tank and a single sample
will be collected from a depth of 15 feet in the boring. Soils
samples for geological logging will be collected at 5 foot
intervals in all borings and each sample will be field checked for
organic vapors using a portable OVA.
The soil samples will be sent to Canonie Environmental
laboratory in Stockton, CA for analysis. The soil samples will be
analyzed for total volatile petroleum hydrocarbons (T.V.P.H. ) and
benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and xylene (B.T.E .%. ) as indicated
in Table 1. The detection limits for these constituents are 1.0
mg/kg and 0.025 mg/kg, respectively. Total lead will be analyzed
in the samples collected from the area of the excavation using
E.P.A. Method 6010 . The single sample collected from the sixth
boring will be analyzed for PCBs and TVPH
The borings will be placed in clean back-fill material and we
anticipate the majority of the soil cuttings will be clean. To
. a.nsure site safety, however, all cuttings will be stored either in
55 gallon plastic barrels or placed under the Visqueen with the
other soil. The barrels will be stored on site until test results
are obtained.
A Health and Safety Plan will be completed and present on site
during all activities . All personnel will be required to read and
sign this document. A copy of the plan is included in this
submittal.
A report describing the results of this study will be prepared
for submission to San Joaquin County Department of Environmental
Health. The report will include geological logs of the soil
borings, a written description of the geology, and a chronology of
activities conducted on site by Condor. Also included will be the
results of the laboratory analyses . The analytical results will
be used to justify site closure or help to determine further
investigative actions .
Respectfully submitted,
David Meade
Staff Geologist
