Health and Safety Plan July 18, 1994
Law/Crandall Project Golden Final
5.0 SITE SAFETY PROCEDURES
5.1 Site Entry Procedures
It will be necessary for the field team to control access to the work area. The SSO will mark a
restricted area, using cones and highly visible tape, vehicles, or barricades. Only persons who
meet the safety training and medical monitoring requirements and who are in possession of the
required personal protective equipment will be allowed in the restricted area. Prior to the start of
field work activities, the SSO will perform the following steps as necessary:
0 Sign-in with facility representative and inform him of each day's planned
activities.
• Locate the nearest telephone and post the emergency telephone numbers.
• Identify the locations of the fire extinguisher, emergency eye wash, first
aid kit, restrooms, and rest areas.
• Place flagging and barricades to prohibit entry of unauthorized personnel
to the work area.
• Setup support zone, decontamination zone, and access point.
• Evaluate site conditions.
5.2 Air Monitoring Requirements
Monitoring for site contaminants will be conducted using a photoionization detector and
combustible gas indicator. A colorimetric indicating tube system will be used to determine the
presence and concentration of hydrogen sulfide. The instruments will be calibrated prior to use
in accordance to the manufacturer's instructions and recorded in the calibration log. The
instruments will also be maintained in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. The
breathing zone height of the workers is to be monitored as well as any low lying or enclosed areas.
13
