15 February 2005
AGE-NC Project No. 02-0950
• Preparation of a report of findings.
Each of these tasks is described in greater detail below.
3.1. PERMITTING AND PRE-FIELD WORK ACTIVITIES
A site assessment boring permit will be obtained from the EHD for all on-site and off-site boring
locations. Encroachment permits will be obtained from the City of Stockton Public Work
Department and property access agreements from off-site private property owners. In addition, a
health and safety plan will be updated in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health Guidance
Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities(National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health
Administration, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 1985). Prior to
mobilization, the area of excavation will be clearly.marked and a utility clearance obtained through
Underground Service Alert.
3.2. CONE PENETROMETER TEST(CPT)
AGE proposes to advance one paired CPT soil boring at the site(Figure 2)as part of site assessment
activities to characterize lithology, identify potential contaminant-migration pathways and to assess
the vertical extent of petroleum hydrocarbon-impacted ground water.
3.2.1. CPT Boring Location
The proposed boring location will be immediately east of the former UST location, between borings
B2 and B4,to further delineate vertical ground water contamination directly at the source area. The
CPT borings shall be advanced to approximately 100 feet below surface grade(bsg)utilizing a 25-
ton truck-mounted CPT drill rig equipped with 2-inch diameter hollow-stem rods; however, total
depth of the boring may vary according to geologic conditions and field evidence of impacted media
encountered during boring advancement.
3.2.2 CPT Ground Water Sample Collection and Analysis
Grab ground water samples will be collected in selected intervals of saturated porous and permeable
soil.Except for depth intervals screened by the current monitoring well network, sampling intervals
will be selected based on interpretation of lithologic data from the initial CPT boring with an
objective of sampling significant hydrogeologic units. Ground water sampling procedures are
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
