O. Box 2009
Stockton, CA 95201
Dear Ms. Reuss:
Enclosed., for your review, is the Preliminary Assessment Report of the Soil Investigation
of 1033 East Scotts Avenue in Stockton. This is the site of soil contamination caused by
leaking underground tanks owned by the former landowners. Although Santa Fe just
recently acquired the property and removed the tanks, we are proceeding with the cleanup
at the County's request. Also, enclosed is the Letter of Acknowledgement which you
requested accompany all proposals or reports submitted to your office for review.
The investigation involved the completion of 10 soil borings in and around the former
underground tank locations. Clean bottom-of-the-hole samples were obtained from 9 of
the 10 borings. Oil contamination was found to have migrated to more than 35 feet below
the ground surface in one of the borings. Since the groundwater is expected to be between
35 and 40 feet below the ground surface at the site, it is likely that some of the oil has
reached the groundwater. Therefore, we will proceed with preparation of a workplan for a
preliminary groundwater investigation at the site. Your review and comments on the
enclosed report will be helpful in preparing the workplan.
Arrangements are being made for Erickson in Richmond to transport and dispose of the
three drums of soil cuttings which were generated during drilling activities. The soil
cuttings will probably be taken to Kettleman City for disposal. At that time we will
submit a copy of the manifest to your office as proof of disposal of the soil.
If you have any questions regarding the enclosed report, please contact me or ERM-West's
Jim Quinn or Shannon Sadler.
Very truly yours,
M. P. Stehly
General Director-Technical Services
By
D. C. Clark, P. E.
