San Joaquin Street
Stockton, CA 95201-388
- (209)468-3442
ERM
Subject: Well Abandonment_ Permit
Application for monitoring wells at
Santa-Fe Railway Company's Scotts
Avenue Facility, Stockton,
-California.
Dear Mr. Knoll:
On-behalf of Santa Fe Railway Company (Santa Fe), ERM-West, Inc., has
prepared this permit application to abandon three monitoring wells (MW-1,
MW-2, and MW-3) at Santa Fe's Scotts Avenue Facility.
As mentioned in your office's letter to Mr. Mick Hardin dated October 11,
1995, the Scotts Avenue site no longer requires additional investigation or
monitoring. Removal or abandonment of the monitoring wells will be
required as part of the site closure process.
Abandonment
-_-Abandonment of monitoring wells .MW=1, MW-2,and MW-3 will be
accomplished by injecting cement grout into the existing PVC casing through
a tremie pipe placed at-the bottom of the well casings. The wells will be filled
with grout`to a depth of approximately 3 to 4 feet below ground surface. The
grout mixture will consist of.the typical cement to water ratio of 5 to 7 bags of
`cement per 55-gallon rnixing-drum. Based on the construction of the
-monitoring wells, approximately 1.3 gallons of cement-grout will be added per
foot of well. After the grout has settled and hardened overnight, the top 3 to 4
feet of casing will be cut. The remaining-opening will be filled with
additional cement grout, and the surface will be restored to existing
conditions at the site.
i
Schedule j
i
Abandonment of the monitoring wells will be scheduled once approval of
this permit application is issued.
A member of the Environmental
= Resources Management Group
