Scotts Ave.
Stockton, CA 95205
San-Joaquin County--Pu-M c -Health cervices, Environmental Health
Division (PHS/EHD) found Chem Risk's presentation to our
"Technical Review Committee" and the Atchison, Topeka, and
Santa Fe representatives to be very interesting and informative.
As you know, PHS/EHD has not given a site closure/certification
based on "Human Health Risk Assessment" . A concern of not only
PHS/EHD but the Central Valley Regional Water Control Board is
the protection of groundwater quality and its actual and
potential beneficial uses.
ERM West, Inc. prepared a "Final Assessment Report" dated March
1991. In that report, it indicates soil containing petroleum
hydrocarbon are present at 35 feet below ground surface and
monitoring wells SFW-1, SFW-2, and -SFW-3 also contain petroleum
hydrocarbons. The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company
has been instructed to' do further sampling and analyses to
determine current groundwater quality (see letter attached) .
Until this information and a report from Chem Risk for the
sampling performed December 16, 1992 is reviewed by this office
no decision on closure utilizing "risk assessment" can be made.
If you have any further questions regarding this matter, contact
Harlin Knoll, Senior REHS, at (209) 468-3442 .
Jogi Khanna, M.D. , M.P.H.
Health Off'cer
 c
aurie A.
