Box 2009 wfzPlliT/SEfZVIE:ES
Stockton, CA 95201
RE: Investigation of contamination associated with former vaulted tanks and UST's
Iocated at 1033 East Scotts Avenue, Stockton, California
Dear Sirs:
As you are aware, borings at the site have indicated that soils tinder these tanks are
contaminated with hydrocarbons. Three wells were recently installed to determine if
groundwater has been impacted. 1 have enclosed, for your review, the March 1991 Final
Site Assessment Report detailing the results of the investigation.
Samples collected from the wells did contain w_ry low levels of some high boiling point
hydrocarbon. However, the laboratory does not characterize these detections as diesel.
The laboratory technician said that it could be any kind of naturally occurring organic
matter. No benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene or xylenes were detected in any of the well
samples.
In light of these most recent results, I have contracted with EPM-West to conduct the
following work as outlined:
r
1. Better define extent of contaminated sol[ and determine if it is hazardous
waste:
U Prepare brief addendum to current work plan.
O Install three borings.
Analyze soil samples.
O Prepare brief report or findings to be entered as Appendix K to the
attached March 1991 Site Assessment Report.
2. Conduct quarterly monitoring and sampling of the three monitoring wells:
• Determine groundwater gradient and direction.
• Analyze for TPH and BTEX.
• Submit brief report to San Joaquin County.
° Begin last week of April 1991.
As soon as the extent of the soil contamination is defined (Appendix K), the Site
Assessment Report will be submitted to various remediation contractors. Their proposals
will be reviewed and a remediation work plan submitted for the technique selected.
8 San la Fe Soatherrm Pacific company
