The purpose of <br /> the subsurface investigation is to further evaluate the lateral and vertical extent of impacted soil and <br /> groundwater in the vicinity of the former underground storage:tanks (USTs). This work being done <br /> at the direction of San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division <br /> (PHS/EHD) in their correspondence dated June 30, 2008. <br /> In brief,-the scope of work for site characterization activitieswill include fadvancing three vertical <br /> soil borings, chemical analysis-of'selected .soil and groundwater samples; and preparing an <br /> investigation report detailing site activities. <br /> SITE LOCATION <br /> The site is located west of Stockton Street and south of West Second Street in Ripon, California, as <br /> shown on Figure 1. The location is a mixed commercial and residential area. The site is currently <br /> occupied by Leo's Auto Service. <br /> BACKGROUND <br /> In March 1991,three USTs were removed from the site. Analyses of soil samples collected from the <br /> excavation indicated high concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons were present in soil beneath the <br /> tanks. Groundwater was not encountered in the excavation.
