Sims Metal Management-Stockton, CA <br /> Certified Appliance Recycler Application <br /> December 2017 <br /> General <br /> Sims .-Metal Management; as -one _ of ithe largest metals recyclers in California, was on the <br /> forefront of ' logistics 1,for implementing the Appliance Recycling Law before it began . Sims <br /> accepts : refrigerators , freezers, - commercial and residential air conditioners, washing machines, <br /> dryers, stoves (gas and electric) , microwaves, dishwashers, heaters, basically, any appliance with <br /> metal parts . <br /> Materials Requiring Special Handling (MRSH) with respect to major appliances (Appliances) <br /> include : (a) encapsulated PCBs and DEPH and metal encased capacitors (Capacitors) ; (b) CFCs , <br /> HCFCs and other non- CFC refrigerants (Refrigerants) ; (c) waste oil , halogenated, from contact <br /> with Refrigerants (d) gear oil from washing machines ; and (e) mercury switches and temperature <br /> control devices (Switches) , in addition to any other material that is a hazardous or universal <br /> waste when removed . <br /> Training <br /> All facility personnel designated for removal or handling of MRSH from Appliances and their <br /> supervisors are trained in the removal of Refrigerants, waste oils , Switches and Capacitors , as <br /> appropriate for that type of Appliance . There are two employees that are Certified Universal <br /> Technicians who have successfully completed an approved on-line training course in accordance <br /> with the Clean Air Act Section 608 , Universal Technician requirements . At a minimum, one <br /> certified technician may supervise others . Facility personnel and job titles are subject to change. <br /> At a minimum, training will include all training required for the handling of applicable Universal <br /> Waste and Hazardous Waste and the handling of PCB small capacitors or ballasts . New <br /> employees are trained when they start the Appliance Area. Universal Waste and Hazardous <br /> Waste training is conducted annually. Remedial training is offered by Freon Free as required . <br /> Training for removal of MRSH includes guidance from the CIWMB "Appliance Recycling <br /> Guide" (June 1998 ) . In addition : <br /> 1 . Waste Oils - New employees work under the guidance of experienced employees . <br /> 2 . Switches - The facility will use the DTSC Guidance document " SelfAraining Manual for <br /> the Removal of Mercury Switches in Appliances" as the initial training resource . New <br /> employees are trained by and work under the guidance of experienced employees . <br /> 3 .
