SMTH
SAMPLING ACTIVITIES
On March 31, 1995, groundwater samples were collected by SMTH from three shallow
monitoring wells (MW-1, MW-2 and MW-3) The locations of the monitoring wells are
shown on Figure 2
Prior
to collection of groundwater samples, the depth to water, pH, electrical conductivity,
and temperature were measured in the monitoring wells and recorded A minimum of three
twell casing volumes were purged from each well prior to sampling The wells were allowed
to recover and samples were collected from each well using dedicated disposable bailers
The groundwater samples collected from each well were submitted to Argon Mobile
Laboratories (FLAP cert no 1873) for analysis of total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline
(TPHg) and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX) utilizing EPA methods
5030/801518020
Groundwater well purge and sample logs are provided in Appendix A
ANALYTICAL RESULTS
Petroleum hydrocarbon analytes were not detected above laboratory method detection limits in
the samples collected from wells MWA and MW-2 The sample collected from well MW-3
' contained concentrations of TPHg (26,000 micrograms per later [ug/1]), benzene (180 ug/l),
toluene (3,100 ug/1), ethylbenzene (420 ug/1), and xylenes (2,200 ug/l). A summary of
analytical results is presented in Table 1 Laboratory data sheets and chain-of-custody
documentation are provided in Appendix B
1 GROUNDWATER FLOW DIRECTION
Water level measurements were collected from wells MW-1, MW-2 and MW-3 on March 31,
1995 Water levels ranged from 26 55 to 26 92 feet below the tops of the well casing
elevations, representing an average increase in the water table elevation of approximately 1.29
1 feet since December 1994 The water level data were used to develop the groundwater
elevation contour map (Figure 2) Assuming that honzontal isotropic conditions prevail,
groundwater in the uppermost aquifer beneath the site flowed in a southeast direction The
average hydraulic gradient on March 31, 1995 was calculated to be 0 02 ft/ft or approximately
106 ft/mile A summary of groundwater monitoring data is presented in Table 2.
z
1500781QUARTLYIIQR-1995 doc
