Working To Restore Nature
SAMPLING ACTIVITIES
r On December 19, 1994, groundwater samples were collected by RFSNA from three shallow
{I monitoring wells (MW-1, MW-2 and MW-3). The locations of the monitoring wells are
shown on Plate 2
Prior to collection of groundwater samples, the depth to water, pH, electrical conductivity,
and temperature were measured in the monitoring wells and recorded A minimum of three
well casing volumes were purged from each well prior to sampling. The wells were allowed
lto recover and samples were collected from each well using dedicated disposable bailers
The groundwater samples collected from each well were submitted to Argon Mobile
Laboratories (ELAP cert no 1873) for analysis of total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline
(TPHg) and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX) utilizing EPA methods
50301801518020
Groundwater well purge and sample logs are provided in Appendix A
ANALYTICAL RESULTS
All petroleum hydrocarbon analytes for the sample collected from well MW-1 were reported
below laboratory method detection limits The sample collected from well MW-2 contained
Iconcentrations of TPHg (460 micrograms per liter [ug/1]), toluene (11 ug/1), ethylbenzene (2 6
ug/1), and xylenes (46 ug/1) The sample collected from well MW-3 contained concentrations
of TPHg (46,000 ug/1), benzene (46 ug/1), toluene (5,000 ug/1), ethylbenzene (560 ug/1), and
xylenes (4,200 ug/1) A summary of analytical results is presented in Table 1 Laboratory
data sheets and chain-of-custody documentation are provided in Appendix B
GROUNDWATER FLOW DIRECTION
Water level measurements were collected from wells MW-1, MW-2 and MW-3 on December
19, 1994 Water levels ranged from 27 84 to 28 21 feet below the tops of the well casing
elevations, representing an average increase in the water table elevation of approximately 1 53
feet since September 1994 The water level data were used to develop the groundwater
elevation contour map (Plate 3) Assuming that horizontal isotropic conditions prevail,
groundwater in the uppermost aquifer beneath the site flowed in a southeast direction The
z
1500781QUARTLYI4QR-1994 dor.
