30 November 2000
v.. AGE-NC Project No. 99-0657
3.0. FINDINGS
.. Shallow site stratigraphy was determined from field data. Hydrocarbon-impacted soil was
characterized from field and laboratory analytical data.
3.1. STRATIGRAPHY
4
A general subsurface stratigraphy was developed for the site based on the well-log soil descriptions,
supplemented by boring logs from the Additional Site Assessment Report dated 03 April 2000. At
the initial sampling depth of 10 feet all boring samples consisted of brownish, damp, silty to medium
sand, except MW-5,which has backfill material to a depth of 20 feet. From about 15 to 20 feet the
. soil is generally clay or silt underlain by sand. Below 20 feet is a brown, silty to sandy clay layer
encountered by all soil borings. Below the clay layer the soil at the boring locations is either fine
sand or clayey silt. Saturated soil samples were encountered at 15 feet bsg.
3.2. HYDROCARBON-IMPACTED SOIL
Neither TPH-g nor BTEX compounds were detected in any of the soil samples analyzed from
borings MW-5 through MW-8.MTBE was detected in samples collected from monitoring well MW-
+- 5 at concentrations of22 mg/kg(MW-5-25)and 19 mg/kg(MW-5-30)byEPA Method 8260.MTBE
was not detected in the 35-foot sample from MW-5. No other oxygenates were detected in the soil
samples analysed. Analytical results of soil samples are summarized on Table 1. The laboratory
reports (MAL Lab I.D. Nos. 48873-48884), quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC)report
and chain-of-custody forms are included in Appendix B.
Organic vapor was not detected in the soil-boring samples. PID data is included on the boring logs
(Appendix A).
4.0. SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS
The following conclusions were drawn from the results of this investigation:
• Saturated soil samples were encountered at approximately 15 feet bsg.
• Neither TPH-g nor BTEX compounds were detected in any of the soil samples analyzed from
borings MW-5 through MW-8.
h
i' Advanced GeoEnvironmentaE,Inc.
it
