05 August 2003
AGE-NC Project No. 03-1023
3.0. INTERIM SOIL REMEDIATION (EXCAVATION)
On 27 May 2003,hydrocarbon-impacted soil from the former UST and dispenser area was excavated
by Elite IV; AGE personnel were on site to collect and field-screen soil samples and to direct the
excavation operation. The excavation was terminated because no petroleum-hydrocarbon odors were
noted in the excavation area and no organic vapors (OV) were detected using a photo-ionization
detector(PID). Approximately 50 cubic yards of soil were removed from the floor and side walls of
the excavation area and stockpiled adjacent to the excavation. With the permission of the EHD,the
excavation was backfilled with the stockpiled soil after completion of the interim remediation.
Prior to backfilling, three soil samples were collected from the excavation for laboratory analysis:
one soil sample was collected from the west end of former UST #1 at a depth of 17 feet bsg (S-1);
one soil sample was collected from the south sidewall at a depth of 13 feet bsg (S-2); and one soil
sample was collected from beneath the former dispenser area at a depth of 6.0 feet bsg (S-3). In
addition, two soil samples were collected from the soil stockpiles(STK-4 and STK-5).Soil sampling
locations are depicted in Figure 2. The laboratory analysis did not detect any of the contaminants of
concern in the samples analyzed (Table 2); a copy of the laboratory report (CTEL Laboratory ID
Nos. 0305-162-1 to -5) is included in Appendix A.
4.0. HYDROCARBONS REMAINING IN SOIL
During excavation, petroleum hydrocarbon odors were not noted in the excavation nor were any OVs
detected using the PID. Furthermore, there were no detectable concentrations of contamination in
soil samples collected from the floor and sidewall of the excavation and from the stockpiled soil.
Based upon these results, it appears that very little impacted soil was present at the site and none
remains in place.
5.0. WATER WELL RECEPTOR SURVEY
Based on the analytical results indicating lack of contamination in the soil samples collected oil
27 May 2003, AGE determined that a sensitive receptor survey was not necessary.
6.0. ASSESSMENT OF HYDROCARBON-IMPACTED SOIL AND GROUND WATER
Due to a lack of contamination, AGE determined further assessment of the soil and ground water
was unwarranted.
Advanced GeoEnvlronmental,Inc.
