Soil samples recovered during the drilling activities were examined, classified,
and their descriptions recorded. Soils were described visually in accordance
with the Standard Practice for Description and Identification of Soils (Visual
Manual Procedure) , by ASTM D-2488 method. The logs of the borings are presented
in Figures 4 - 6: Logs of Borings. Explanations of the symbols used in the
boring logs are presented in Figure 7: Key to Boring Logs/Unified Soil
Classification System.
VII. ANALYTICAL TESTING
The recovered soil samples were submitted to Western Environmental Science And
Technology, a State of California Certified Laboratory. Analytical testing was
scheduled and performed in accordance with the State of California, Regional
Water Quality Control Board Guidelines.
The soil samples were tested for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as Diesel (TPH-D)
by RWQCB Method GCFID 3550, Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as Gasoline with
Benzene, Toluene, Xylene and Ethylbenzene (TPH-G/BTEX) by RWQCB Method GCFID
5030/8020M, and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) by EPA Method 624/8240.
Summary of the tests performed and the analytical test results are presented on
Tables 1 and 2. The analytical test data, along with the chain-of-custody
records are presented in Appendix.
VIII. CONCLUSIONS
The analytical testing of a soil sample collected at 1 foot from soil probe SP-3
detected 16 ppm of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons as Motor Oil; the testing of this
sample did not detect the other tested constituents. The testing of soil samples
recovered at 3 and 7 feet from soil probe SP-3 did not detect the tested
constituents.
In addition, the testing of soil samples obtained from the other soil probes and
the exploratory borings did not detect the tested constituents.
The testing results indicate that a localized contamination of the surf icial soil
may have occurred in the area of the soil probe SP-3 location.
4 -
