• will allow the remediation efforts to be concentrated on the portion of the hydrocarbon plume that
represents a continued health risk and will reduce the system operating costs During subsequent
monitoring events, if an area which has been shut down exhibits concentrations above the
remediation goals, then any AS wells in that area will be restarted promptly
E. SYSTEM PERFORMANCE EVALUATION
By performing the steps outlined under Subsection D, System Performance, the groundwater and
soil remediation system will be operated as efficiently as possible The performance of the system
shall be evaluated from the quarterly monitoring data and system mass recovery calculations The
dissolved benzene concentrations in monitoring wells, which have not yet achieved remediation
goals, will be graphed versus time If the concentration in any of the monitoring wells is
asymptotically approaching a concentration which is greater than the remediation goals, then the
remediation of that monitoring well will be assumed to not be meeting the performance criteria
Using these criteria, portions of the treatment system can meet the performance criteria while others
will not If greater than 50% of the monitoring wells do not meet the performance criteria, then the
continued operation of the treatment system will be evaluated and system modifications and
upgrades will be recommended If only a few monitoring wells do not meet performance criteria,
then modifications will be evaluated only for those wells, or sections of the plume, while the
aremaining wells will continue to be remedaated
F. SITE HEALTH AND SAFETY
All OMP activities will be conducted in accordance with the HASP protocol Various forms will
be utilized to record pertinent safety concerns before, during, and after every O&M visit Adherence
to the HASP protocol will assure safe remediation operations at the site
Specific OMP and HASP forms such as the Equipment Inspection Checklist, Maintenance Logs,
operation trend analyses, and other forms will be included in the Remediation System Operations
and Monitoring Manual
VI-3
