# ;
t..
Health Administration, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency, October 1985.
2) Notify the EHD 48 hours prior to commencement of any work.
3) Drill three or four soil borings to ma>amum depths of 80 feet. The borings will be
drilled utilizing a hollow-stem auger drill rig. The estimated boring locations are
depicted on Figure 3.
4) Collect and log soil samples at 5-foot intervals. Auger returns and soil sample
duplicates will be logged in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System.
Samples will be obtained using a split-spoon sampler loaded with three pre-cleaned
brass sleeves.
5) Complete three of the borings as 2-inch groundwater monitoring wells(MW-8, MW-9
and MW-10). Monitoring wells will be developed using a surge block. The well design
is illustrated in Figure 4. Additional soil borings, if necessary, will be backfilled to the
surface with cement.
6) Decontaminate sampling equipment in a tri-sodium phosphate solution (TSP) and
rinse twice with water prior to each sampling run.
7) Preserve soil samples in the lead brass sleeve by covering both ends with aluminum
sheets, capping and sealing with tape.
8) Label and log soil samples on a chain of custody form.
9) Store the samples under ice and transport the samples in a chilled container to a
state-certified laboratory for analysis. Approximately fifteen (15) soil samples will be
analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH as gas) and volatile aromatics
(BTE&X) in accordance with EPA methods 8015m and 8020, respectively. A state-
certified mobile laboratory may also be utilized for analysis.
10) Monitor auger returns and soil sample duplicates for the presence of volatile organics
using a photo-ionization detector (PID) pre-calibrated to isobutylene.
11) Place auger returns on plastic sheeting and store on-site pending analytical results of
soil samples.
12) Measure the static water level in each well, relative to the top of the well casing, to
the nearest 0.01 foot 72 hours after well development and survey the relative
elevation of the top of well casings.
0-68k.1 3
Ovcon B.laery wP/tiiW.i.l
