BACKGROUND
2 1 UNDERGROUND STORAGE TANK REMOVAL
I The site is located on the southwest corner of North Sierra Nevada Street and Flora Street in
Stockton, California Genova Bakery occupies the only building on the site One 350-gallon gasoline
underground storage tank(UST) was removed from beneath the sidewalk, on the west side of North
Sierra Nevada Street, in September 1989 Samples collected from beneath the UST indicated that an
unauthorized release of hydrocarbons had occurred The PHS/EHD required investigation of the
lateral and vertical extent of petroleum hydrocarbons
2 2 HYDROCARBON-IMPACTED SOIL AND GROUND WATER ASSESSMENT
Assessment of hydrocarbon impacted soil and groundwater at this site was completed by
Groundwater Technology, Inc and reported in November 1987 and October 1988 Seven
I groundwater monitoring wells were installed on or near the site Free product was observed in MW-I
and MW-2 and was removed by representatives of Genova Bakery No contamination was detected
in the other five wells The assessment of hydrocarbon impacted soil indicated that vadose zone
Icontanunatnon was restricted to the area immediately below the former UST location
23 REMEDIATION OF HYDROCARBON-IWACTED SOIL
.
