4.0 FINDINGS
4.1 Stratigraphy and Field Observations
Dry salt to fine sandy-silts were present in borings CB-1 and CB-2 from surface grade to a
depth of approximately 20 feet Dry to damp sands were encountered from 20 feet to 30 feet
and again from 35 feet to 53 feet Damp silts were present from 30 to 35 feet However, a
gravel layer was noted in CB-2 from approximately 33 to 35 feet Fine sandy silt to clayey
salt was present from 53 feet to 65 feet (total depth)
Hydrocarbon odors were noted in samples from boring CB-1 at depths from 20 feet to 45
feet and in boring CB-2 at depths from 35 feet to 45 feet Organic vapors were detected by
the PID at concentrations up to 564 ppm (CB2-35) The generalized stratigraphy between
CB-1 and CB-2 is illustrated on Figure 3
Borings MW-8 and MW-9 penetrated silts from surface grade to 20 feet A silty clay was
encountered in boring MW-9 near ground surface Stratigraphy in boring MW-8 vaned
widely from 20 feet to 53 feet Soils consisted of inter-bedded clays, silts, sands and gravel
Boring MW-9 contained a clay layer from approximately 22 feet to 28 feet, underlain by silt
Fine sandy silt to clayey silt was present in both borings from approximately 53 feet to 75
feet (total depth) No hydrocarbon odors or organic vapors were detected in borings MW-8
or MW-9 The boring logs are included in Appendix B
4.2 Analytical Results of Soil Samples
A total of 16 soil samples were analyzed for TPH as gasoline and BTE&X No petroleum
hydrocarbons were detected in samples from MW-8 or MW-9 TPH as gasoline was detected
in samples CB-1-20 and CBI-35 at 300 ppm and 2,200 ppm, respectively Toluene,
ethylbenzene and xylenes were detected in sample C131-35 at concentrations of 0 14 ppm,
14 ppm, and 23 ppm, respectively
TPH as gasoline was detected in boring CB-2 at depths of 30 feet and 35 feet (39 ppm and
450 ppm) Xylene was detected in C132-35 at 15 ppm Xylenes were detected in sample
CB2-40 at a concentration of 0 0054 ppm No benzene was detected in any of the samples
analyzed Figure 3 shows the initial extent of impacted soil from the drilling of MW-2 and
EW-1 Figure 4 shows the extent of remaining impacted soil
Two soil samples were analyzed for total lead Lead was detected in samples CB1-15 and
CB1-20 at concentrations of 12 ppm and 9 ppm, respectively The analytical results of the
soil samples are summarized in Table 2 The laboratory report and chain-of-custody are
included in Appendix C
CbBa3 Acd1 Semsa I.c
0-w.5.k.ry'.n 94,11
