Of the
existing techniques, vapor extraction is considered the most
effective method to mitigate the unauthorized release. This
mitigative plan calls for the installation of a vapor extraction in
the center of the impacted area. A work plan, detailing the
procedures of the installation, was submitted to and approved by
the San Joaquin County - Environmental Health Division (SJEHD) .
This report pertains only to this particular task.
A more detailed background information was described in the above-
mentioned work plan and in the more comprehensive remedial action
I plan.
PROCEDURES
To meet the objective, a pilot boring was drilled to a total depth
of 70 feet using truck mounted 8-inch hollow stem augers on 11 June
I 1991 (Figure 2 - Site Plan) . The drill rig and a two-man crew were
supplied by West Hazmat Drilling Corporation.
I In order to obtain an accurate soil profile from the upper 50 feet,
where the majority of the contamination is assumed to be confined,
this interval was continuously cored using a 5-foot long split tube
sampler. A portion of the soil from selected intervals of this core
Iwas immediately transferred into a plastic bag and screened for the
IEnvironmental Services • Hydrogeology •Geotechnical Seances
