CONFIRMATORY SAMPLING
Upon indication of positive monitoring results, confirmatory
sampling is conducted. The following items need to be performed:
' 16) Drill confirmatory borings within the lateral extent of
the contamination to a previously specified depth using
truck mounted hollow stem augers. The location, number
and total depth of the borings is subject to discussion
with, and final approval of the SJEHD.
' 18) Obtain discrete soil samples using a split-tube sampler
at 5--foot .intervals starting from a depth 10 feet from
the borings.
19) Wash sampling equipment in tri-sodium phosphate (TSP)
solution and rinse twice with water prior to each
sampling run.
20) Transport soil samples in a chilled container to a State
certified laboratory within 24 hours.
' 21) Analyze selected soil samples for total petroleum
hydrocarbon (TPH) in accordance with DHS approved method
' for gasoline and for purgeable aromatic hydrocarbons
(BTE&X) in accordance with EPA method 8020 . The number of
soil samples to be analyzed is subject to discussion
with, and final approval of the SJEHD.
22) Backfill the borings with concrete/bentonite slurry and
restore surface seal with concrete.
' 9 . 7 . PROJECT SUPERVISION
' 23) Notify the SJEHD 48 hours prior to any field work
initiation.
24) Prepare a progress report detailing the results of the
vapor monitoring and submit the report to the SJEHD and
the APCD.
25) Upon completion of the cleanup project, prepare a final
report detailing the results in a format to be submitted
to the SJEHD.
r
r
