The property
was previously owned by Occidental Chemic"California.
Agricultural Products,
Inc. before being sold to Simplot in 1982.
An investigation performed by Occidental has identified an area within
the plant property where agricultural chemicals were spilled at a time
when Occidental operated the facility. The remedial project will be
undertaken within the next 6 weeks. DHS has requested that Occidental
inform you about this project.
What Occidental Plans To Do
The spill site is a small isolated area located wholly within the
plant boundaries. Occidental will excavate the area to a depth of
approximately 10-12 feet and will refill the excavated area with clean
soil. The total time necessary for completion of the excavation is
estimated to be 4-7 days.
The contaminated materials will be placed in secured vehicles
appropriate for handling hazardous materials and transported to a
licensed hazardous waste disposal facility. The remedial program will
be performed by an outside contractor experienced in hazardous waste
management.
Safety,Measures
Safety and spill contingency plans have been prepared for the site and
approved by the state. Air monitoring will be carried out during the
operation to control dust or other emissions during excavation. The
plant property is fenced and has security stationed at the entrance.
To ensure public safety, there will be no public access to the
excavation site.
For More Information
If you would like more detailed information about the project, please
contact the Senior Project Manager for Occidental's remedial project
at the Simplot site, Mr. Paul V.
