r
Work Plan to Install
Additional Monitoring
ARCADIS Wells
Former OCC Lathrop Facility
1. Introduction
On behalf of Glenn Springs Holdings, Inc.(GSH),ARCADIS U.S., Inc. (ARCADIS)has
prepared this Monitoring Well Installation Work Plan (Work Plan)for the former
Occidental Chemical Corporation(OCC)manufacturing facility(Site). The Site is
located at 16777 Howland Road near the southwest corner of Louise Avenue and
Howland Road in Lathrop, San Joaquin County, California(Figures 1 and 2). To
further understand local hydrogeology and groundwater quality east of the Site,
ARCADIS proposes to install 16 additional monitoring wells, including four multiple-
zone monitoring well clusters(PW33 to PW36), and deep zone monitoring wells at four
existing cluster locations(PW01, PW21, PW25, and PW30).The locations of the
proposed monitoring wells and clusters are shown on Figure 2.
2. Work Plan Objective
The specific objective of this work plan is to assess groundwater quality and
groundwater flow gradients at depths up to approximately 260 feet below ground
surface(ft bgs)between the Site and potential receptors including the Simplot supply
well and City of Lathrop Water District wells LWD-6, LWD-7, and LWD-8.
3. Monitoring Well Installation Activities
3.1 Pre-Field Activities
Prior to well installation activities, underground utility clearance, and permitting and
property access negotiations will be conducted as described below.
3.1.1 Underground Utility Clearance
Prior to commencement of investigation activities, and in accordance with state law,
Underground Service Alert(USA)will be notified of the intent to conduct subsurface
investigations at least 48 hours prior to initiation of intrusive field tasks. The proposed
well locations will be clearly marked with white paint or surveyor's flagging as required
by USA. USA will notify utility owners of record within the vicinity of the proposed well
location. The utility owners of record, or their designated agents, will be expected to
clearly mark the position of their utilities on the ground surface throughout all publicly
owned areas designated for well installations.
2014.03.13 mw installation work plan_fnal doc 1
