Hazelton
Stockton, CA
Re: Storm Pond Proposal , Hempstead Court
The proposal presented by Mid-Valley Engineering to drill "Dry Wells"
for storm water drainage to a depth of 40 feet is unacceptable. The
maximum depth a "dry well" can be drilled in San Joaquin County is
25 feet or 10 feet above the ground water table, whichever is closer .
The reason for this requirement is water wells drilled in San Joaquin
County require a minimum of a 50 foot grout seal to protect the
ground water tables from contamination. Introducing surface drainage
water which may be contaminated, into ground water stratas is not
acceptable. In addition pentration through a perched water table by
a "dry well" has the potential of draining poor quality water from the
perched table into the static water acquifers below.
The Health District recommends that the maximum depth of the storm
ponds , including any dry wells , conform to the California Regional
Water Quality Control Board requirements of three feet above the perched
water table .
Should you have any questions , please contact Fred Kaufman, Supervising
Sanitarian, at ( 209 ) 468-3426 .
Jogi Khanna, M.
