October 7 , 1987
San Joaquin County Planning Commission
1830 E. Hazelton
Stockton, CA 95205
RE: SITE APPROVAL APPLICATION NO. SA-88-7
Pauline Nguyen c/o Khan Van Bui , Hollenbeck Rd
Custom Slaughterhouse
I would like to express my opposition to the application.
First of all , it is not the type of operation that I would
like to have as a neighbor and feel that the opertion of a
slaughterhouse is not compatible with other farming operations
in our neighborhood. My husband is part of a cattle ranching
family, however animals are not kept at our location. Many
years ago, the family wanted to put in a feedlot on part of this
location, but decided that it would be offensive, not only to us ,
but to our neighbors , and so it was not done.
Since them, some other types of operations have gone in under
the ag zoning that have made changes in this area. These sites
produce strong odors , and when the wind is right, there are
nights that we can ' t even open our windows due to the odors ,
and I would have additional concerns about this operation
adding to the current problem.
Hollenbeck Road wasn ' t built for a lot of heavy travel . . . there
have been manyyears that we have "slided from mud puddle to
puddle"to navigate it. The increased heavy travel of this
proposed operation would add to the continued breakdown of
the road.
Knowing the condition ofthe current buildings on this land,
there are also concerns of sanition and health standards being
established and monitored.
I have heard that in addition the operation would not be
conducted by the property owner, but leased to someone else.
If this is so, it makes the operation even more of a commercial
venture not compatible to our area.
I urge the Planning Commission to not approve this application
for a slaughterhouse.
Laura Tower
17265 E. Hwy 4
Stockton, CA 95205
209-465-4840
