(AGE). The work plan
proposes excavating approximately 276 cubic yards of contaminated soil to a depth of approximately
24 feet below surface grade (bsg) and transporting the excavated soil off site to a licensed landfill for
disposal.
The work plan feasibility study stated that delays in the current construction at the site due to
discovery and excavation of the coritaminated soil may result in cost over-runs and reverse penalties
against the City of Stockton. In telephone conversations on August 27 and August 29,2002,you
and AGE,respectively, requested the proposed work be implemented as interim remediation as soon
as possible in order to avoid cost over-runs in the construction work currently taking place at the
T
site. 1
EHD approves the work plan with.-the understanding that the extent of the contamination has not
been defined at this time and that additional work may be required in the future. In order to
maximize the efficacy of the work, approval of the work plan is conditioned on meeting the k
following requirement: Collect and analyze sgil samples from the side walls at each significantly
different lithological layer or from each contaminated area in addition to every 20 linear feet as
proposed in the work plan Section 3.3. Approval of this work plan is nullified if this condition is not
met.
Notice of the interim remediation for public participation will be posed on September 3,2002 as
discussed by telephone on September 3,2002.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Jeffrey Wong at (209) 468-0335.
{
Donna Heran,REHS,Director
Environmental Health Division
Jeffrey C
effrey Wong,Senior REHS Nuel C.
