Problem Assessment Report November 20, 1990
Fire Engine Company No. 2, Stockton, California AGS 38009-2
Disnosal of Drill Cuttings and Pureed Water
® Soil cuttings and purge water generated during the December 1988 drilling event were
temporarily stored in Department of Transportation (DOT) drums. Four discrete soil
samples were collected from the drill cuttings and composited into one sample in the
laboratory for selected analyses to evaluate disposal options. Applied GeoSystems obtained
an application for authorization of uncontrolled soil aeration onsite from the San Joaquin
County Air Pollution Control District on August 14, 1989. In the May 1990 event the drill
cuttings were stored on and covered with plastic. The purged water from both sampling
events was pumped and stored in approved DOT drums pending laboratory analyses. We
understand from the City'of Stockton that the.driIl cuitings..and the drummed water from
both drilling events were transported and disposed of properly.
SITE CONDITIONS
Geolo2y
The site is underlain by the Modesto Formation, which is divided into nonmarine basin
deposits, fan deposits, and stream channel deposits consisting of clay, silt, and sand (Rogers,
1966).
