July 27, 2011
AEI Project No. 299162
Estimated depth to groundwater is 14-26 feet bgs based on historic groundwater monitoring
data on site from the Speckels Sugar Company. The anticipated groundwater flow direction
based upon topography is northwest.
III Scope of Work
The scope of work proposed consists of the drilling and logging of a total of one (1) soil boring
at the property near the wash area and drain with a truck-mounted direct push drilling rig
(Figure 2). Boring SB-1 will be advanced to a planned depth of approximately 8 feet bgs for the
collection of soil samples. It is anticipated that one (1) soil sample from the boring will be
analyzed.
Groundwater is expected at approximately 14 to 26 feet bgs and is not anticipated during this
investigation.
Predrilling and Site Safety
Prior to completing drilling activities, a soil boring permit will be obtained from the EHD, and the
EHD will be notified prior to beginning work. AEI will notify Underground Services Alert of the
location for the planned drilling activities a minimum of 48-hours before performing the work,
as required by law. An independent utility locator will be used to locate subsurface utilities
within the vicinity of the proposed drilling location. Locations of the borings may be altered
based on utility survey findings, particularly if underground utilities are identified within the
drilling areas.
Drilling
The selected drilling contractor will hold a California C57 driller's license. Soil borings will be
advanced with a truck mounted (or similar) Geoprobe° direct-push drilling rig. Following
sample collection, each boring will be backfilled with cement grout in accordance with the
permit conditions.
Soil Sample Collection
Soil in the shallow borings will be continuously collected in 13/4 inch diameter acrylic liners
within the sampling barrel from which a 6 inch sample will be collected at appropriate depths.
Samples will be selected and cut from the liners. The samples will be sealed with Teflon tape
and plastic end caps. A photo ionization detector (PID) will be used to screen soil samples in
the field, and PID readings for each sample will be included on the boring logs.
Sample Storage
All samples will be sealed and labeled immediately upon collection. Samples will be placed in a
cooler with water ice. Chain of custody documentation will be initiated prior to leaving the site.
All samples will be delivered to a state certified laboratory.
Sample Analyses
Select soil samples will be analyzed for the following:
• CAM17 Metals
• TPH multi-range (including hydraulic oil) by EPA Method 8015
