20 December 2001
AGE-NC Project No 01-0827
and sampling port were also attached to the SVE operation A cumulative flow meter was installed
downstream of the carbon canisters to monitor air flow
' The influent and effluent streams were monitored routinely for the presence of organic vapor using
.. an organic vapor analyzer (OVA) equipped with a photo-ionization detector (PID Thermo
Environmental 580A, 10 0 eV, calibrated to isobutylene)
g
in
Samp lports were installed downstream of the vacuum blower inlet and prior to entry of the
treatment vessels to recover SVE influent air flow vapor stream samples, and downstream, at the
system exhaust of the carbon vessels to recover effluent SVE air flow samples to monitor the
efficiency of hydrocarbon removal Field measurements, recorded at regular intervals between I l
' October and 15 November 2001, are summarized in Table I
I24 SPARGE SYSTEM INSTALLATION
A compressor-based EnviroSparge IAS system was installed at thesite on 03 August 2001 The
compressor was connected to the sparge wells manifold using a one-inch diameter PVC pipe and to
the two-inch diameter network via under ground piping The IAS system delivers 5 standard cubic
feet per minute (scfm) at a pressure of 10 pounds per square inch, adequate to displace the static
Iwater within each sparge well
The EnviroSparge IAS system began full-scale operation on 11 October 2001 The IAS system was
monitored and serviced over the first month of operation The dissolved oxygen in the ground water
wells was not measured regularly during the week However, dissolved oxygen has shown a low to
moderate increase in ground water wells since the initiation of the remediation system
The s ar in flow rate was adjusted to approximately 4 5 to 5 scfm and to a pressure of 10 psi, to
p g g
minimize migration of the dissolved contaminants
1
' 25 SVE START-UP
The SVE system began operation on 1 I October 2001, when three-phase power was connected to
the system from a temporary power pole located at the northwest corner of the site
The initiation of the SVE operation was observed on 11 October 2001 by representatives of the San
Joaquin Unified Air Pollution Control District (A.PCD) and of the City of Stockton The SVE unit
• is operated in accordance with APCD permit N-3352-2 (Appendix B)
' Measurement of the SVE flow rate, vacuum (potential), concentrations of hydrocarbons in the
Advanced Geolinvironmental,Inc
