A.
Soil Vapor Extraction and Air Sparge Feasibility Evaluation Work Plan
University Park
{' September 15,2004
Page 5
(ATC) permit is required for a pilot test provided that the pilot test is no longer than five days in duration.
t However, an ATC permit will be required for construction of the final SVE system. At least 48 hours
prior to implementation of the pilot test, Condor will notify the SJVAPCD and the SJCEHD.
4.1 SVE PILOT TEST PROCEDURES
i
The SVE pilot test is anticipated to operate for minimum of 24 hours. Pilot testing will be conducted ,
utilizing the SVE well installed southwest of the former UST excavation as the extraction well.
Monitoring wells MW-1, MW-2, MW-3, and two additional SVE wells will be used for pilot test
observation points.
During the pilot test of the SVE well, periodic measurements will be made of vacuum at the extraction
well and the observation wells. Depth to water measurements will be made at MW-3, the observation well
nearest the SVE extraction well being tested at the start of, and just prior to the end of, the pilot test.
Periodic measurements of organic vapor concentrations will be made of the vapor influent to the blower
r
and of the effluent from the carbon canisters using a PID. Periodic measurements of the percentage of
oxygen in the influent vapor will be measured with an oxygen meter. An airflow meter installed'in the
f vacuum line between the SVE well being tested and the blower will monitor airflow rates.
{. 4.2 VAPOR LABORATORY ANALYSES
E _
A soil vapor sample will be collected for laboratory analyses from the wellhead of the SVE well used as
an extraction well at the beginning of, and prior to the completion of the long-term pilot test.
{" Concurrently, vapor concentrations will be measured.with a PID for correlation. In addition, one field
blank will be collected during the sampling at the SVE extraction well. A maximum of three 4 vapor
X_ samples will be collected during the SVE pilot testing. Each vapor sample will be collected into a1-liter
SUMMA canister. The field blank will be collected by opening the Summa canister to the, ambient air up-
stream of,but in the vicinity of, the test equipment of the SVE well.
The soil vapor samples will be submitted to a California-certified environmental lab for analyses, Each
vapor sample will be analyzed for TPH-G by EPA Method 8015m, for BTEX by EPA Method 8020, and
for gasoline oxygenates/additives by EPA Method 8260B. The gasoline oxygenates/additives will include
1 MTBE, ethanol, TBA, di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), ethyl tertiary-butyl ether (ETBE), tertiary-amyl methyl
ether (TAME), 1,2-dibromoethane (EDB or 1,2-DBA), and 1,2-DCA. The analytical methods and
analytical detection limits are presented in Table 1, on the following page.
Il.
I
l .
l
1
{ 4M
CONDOR
l' I€
