On 5-28-98, six borings through the hold-down slabs were accomplished and two of the
needed six samples were obtained before inclement weather forced the delay of
• obtaining additional samples The weather conditions delayed any activity in the
' excavation until 6-2-98, at which time the four remaining samples and one composite
sample were obtained for analysis Also, at this time an apparent area of contamination
in one comer of the excavation was further excavated to determine the extent of the
contamination, This contamination was subsequently found to be confined to the one
area of the excavation See attached map for contamination location Due to the fact
that contamination was found only in the one area, and, after conferring with A K Jain
of the Real Estate Services Division, over-excavation of the area was not deemed
necessary Excavated soil was stockpiled at the area to the northeast of the helicopter
pad area and subsequently brought down to a two foot lift
Excavation was then back-filled using sand to a height of eight inches from grade,
compacted to a 95% compaction rate (see attached compaction report), and covered
with reinforced concrete as per specifications of the contract
Based on the enclosed results and witnessed work, we recommend and request that
your department provide written recommendations on the above listed site Please
address that in writing to A K Jain, Project Manager at 1300 "1" St, Suite 700
Sacramento, CA 95814 Please also carbon copy myself at this office for our file
Also enclosed is the complete laboratory report, sampling location map, hazardous
waste manifests for the tank removal and disposal and certificate of acceptance for your
file and review
If we can provide you with any further information in this matter, please do not hesitate
to contact me at (530) 345-8562
Best Regards,
William Irwin
Project Manager
Hm/WEI
Enclosures
CC File— Stockton Army Air Support Facility
A K Jain, Project Manager, Real Estate Services Division
Sgt Curt Lance, Field Representative, Stockton Army Air Support Facility
i
