IrCrINTOORC <br /> 40 SOIL STOCKPILE SAINIPLING <br /> The following sections discuss the origins of the soil stockpiles and the sampling protocol <br />' used to characterize them Samples were collected in accordance with Versar s Site Intiestiga- <br /> tion Workplan Addendum, dated May 10 1996 and approved by PHSIEHD on May 15 1996 <br /> Mr Mike Inf ima of the PHSIEHD was on site to witness the first soil stockpile sample collected <br /> and the emptying of soil-filled drums stored on site <br /> 41 Background <br />' The soil stockpiles presently on site are denoted as soil stockpiles 1 d 1 in <br /> p p y p es , 2 an � The sol <br /> Soil Stockpile I was generated during the removal and over-excavation of the three 5,000-gallon <br /> USTs in January 1990 It is estimated that the stockpile consists of approximately 500 cubic <br /> yards and covers an area of approximately 3,500 square feet at an average height of four feet <br />' Soil Stockpile 2 was generated in 1992 during removal excavation, and installation of the <br /> present 15,000-gallon fuel storage tank An unknown portion of Soil Stockpile 2 was generated <br /> during removal and excavation activities by others at the wash pad area in 1992 The stockpile <br /> consists of approximately 1,250 cubic yards of soil covering an area of approximately 6 700 <br /> square feet at an average of five feet in height <br /> Forty-three 55-gallon drums were stored on site Soil Stockpile ') contained soil from 37 <br /> Y � <br /> drums of soil generated during previous site investigations Two drums contained water <br />' generated during the purging and development of the groundwater monitoring wells on site, and <br /> four drums were empty <br /> 4.2 Soil Stockpile Sample Collection <br />' Soil Stockpile 1 was apportioned into six areas of approximately equal volume One grab <br /> sample was collected from the approximate center of each area at a depth of approximately 2 <br /> feet Figure 4 shows the sample locations The samples, labeled SPI-I through SP1-6. were <br />' submitted to a state certified laboratory for analysis Samples SP1-1, SP1-2, and SPI-3 were <br /> combined by the laboratory into one composite sample, as were samples SP1-4, SP1-5, and SPI- <br /> 6 The two composite soil samples were analyzed for TPH-JP4, BTEX, and MTBE <br />' Soil Stockpile 2 was apportioned into four areas of approximately equal volume Three <br /> grab samples were collected from each area at a depth of approximately 2 feet Figure 5 shows <br />' the sample locations The samples were labeled SP2-1 through SP2-12 and submitted to a state <br /> certified laboratory for equal dr�ision into four composite samples The four soil samples were <br /> analyzed for TPH-D, TPH-JP4, TPH-G, BTEX, MTBE, and semi-volatile organic compounds <br /> (SVOCs) <br />' P%DSAIST0CKT0M33720U111STQTR RPT 7 <br />
