The design, bidding, permitting and construction
should be completed by December 1995.
Argonne and Picardy
Twinning grouted and sampled the recently installed monitoring well
without notifying PHSIEHD. However, the soil and groundwater results
showed nondetectable levels. The well must be sampled at least one
more time (at least thirty days after the first sample event). If the
second sample event yields nondetectable levels a closure report should
be submitted to PHSIEHD and should include a workplan to destroy the
monitoring well at the site.
1740 Houston Avenue
Tank removal soil results confirm that the east end of the tank pit is
clean at 11 feet. The grab sample from the middle of the excavation at
11 feet during the overexcavation activities on April 3, 1995 had a
strong petroleum odor. A sidewall sample of unknown depth indicates
that contamination is extending laterally beneath the building.
An addendum to the existing workplan must be submitted to PHSIEHD
within three to four weeks to describe the procedures to.
1) Backfill the east end of the tank pit in the presence of the
PHSIEHD inspector.
2) Dewater and overexcavate the west end of the pit and the
dispenser area.
3) Sample the west end sidewall to determine if an investigation
beneath the building is warranted.
4) Submit a workplan for the investigation beneath the building if
necessary.
The workplan is to be implemented within two weeks of PHSIEHD
approval.
2500 Navy Drive
The angle borings under the maintenance building (131 and 132) showed
residual contamination. All other soil boring and monitoring well sample
results were non detect. Modeling of residual contamination will
determine if further work or investigation/mitigation is required.
4010 East Main
The soil borings recently installed at the site showed only a limited
amount of soil contamination remaining between 10 and 15 feet.
