10 March 2003
AGE-NC Project No 02-0964
I EPA-approved volatile organic analysis (VOA) vials containing 0 5 ml 18%hydrochloric acid as a
sample preservative and one-liter amber bottles lacking preservative Care was taken to ensure that
visible air bubbles were not present in the vials after filling and capping The ground water sample
Icontainers were subsequently labeled with the well designation, date, time, and sampler's initials
I2 3 LABORATORY ANALYSIS OF GROUND WATER SAMPLES
' Each ground water sample was logged on a chain--of-custody form, placed in a chilled container and
shipped to Cal Tech Environmental Laboratories(CTEL)a California Department of Health Services
(DHS)-certified analytical laboratory Selected samples were analyzed for
I • Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline and diesel (TPH-g and TPH-d) in
accordance with EPA Method 8015 Modified and
I • Benzene,toluene,ethylbenzene and xylene(BTEX)and the fuel additives methanol,ethanol,
ethylene dibromide (EDB), 1,2-di chloro ethane (1,2-DCA), tertiary butanol (TBA), di-
isopropyl ether(DIPE),ethyl tent butyl ether(ETBE),tert amyl methyl ether(TAME),methyl
tertiary-butyl ether(MTBE) by EPA Method 8260B
I30. FINDINGS
' Ground water elevation, flow direction and gradient were determined from field data collected on
24 January 2003, the contaminant impact to ground water was assessed from the ground water
laboratory data
I
3 1 GROUND WATER ELEVATION AND GRADIENT
During the January 2003 ground water monitoring event, depths to ground water ranged between
27 96 and 28 40 feet below the tops of well casings, ground water elevations were calculated to be
between 17 30 feet(MW-1)and 16 27 feet(MW-3)below mean sea level(MSL) The ground water
was inferred to flow east to northeast at a gradient of approximately 0 008 ft/ft (Figure 3)
Ground water table elevation at the site increased an average 1 foot between the October 2002 and
January 2003 ground water monitoring events
•
I
