San Joaquin County Environmental Health Division Project 2257-E <br /> December 29, 1999 Page 4 <br /> what is the probability that it came from the removed and abandoned underground storage <br /> tanks on-site <br /> Based on the available data, our firm proposes to obtain samples of the on-site <br /> groundwater, or soil if groundwater is not present, upgradient and downgradient from the <br /> previous underground storage tanks by means of direct-push probes using the seivices of <br /> Vironex Environmental Field Services, which are described in Appendix B The small <br /> diameter probes, using a geoprobe 5400 subsurface sampling system will extend to a <br />. depth of 35 feet or until_groundwater is encountered_The tentative locations of th-_ probes <br /> are shown on Plate 1 The sampling will be undertaken by operators who have completed <br /> a 40--hour OSHA training course, and the soil samples will be logged and evalual,cd by a <br /> certified hydrogeologist <br /> Groundwater samples will be obtained in accordance with the LUFT requirements of <br /> California Water Resources Control Board, using a peristaltic pump and clean, new PVC <br /> tubing at each probe The water samples will be placed in laboratory provided containers <br /> and delivered to the testing laboratory in an ice chest with "blue ice" Soil samples will be <br /> encapsulated in plastic tubes and placed on ice for delivery to the Vironex testing <br /> laboratory, which is certified by the State of California (FLAP #2250) The probe holes <br /> will be filled with,co rcn eke at the completion of sampling, and any contaminated material <br /> will be removed firom-theNsite to a certified disposal site <br /> Groundwater and soil samples will be tested for total petroleum hydrocarbons (gas and <br /> diesel), benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylenes (BTEX) and methyl tertiary butyl <br /> ether (MTBE) using EPA Methods 8015/8020 Samples will also be tested for total lead <br /> (Method 7420) in order to assist in evaluating the age and character of the petroleum <br /> contaminants <br /> HYDRO-GEO CONSULTANTS,INC <br />
