FIELD PROCEDURES
Is
Ground Water Measuring, Purging, and Sam lin
The water level in each well was measured with an electronic water Ievel indicator The wells
were checked for free product with a new, clean, disposable polyethylene bailer prior to purging
and sampling When free product was not observed, the ground water was purged with a 2-inch
diameter submersible pump Purging of the wells included the removal of approximately three
well volumes of water from each well Ground water samples were then collected with new
polyethylene disposable bailers and decanted into appropriate sampling containers provided by the
analytical laboratory
On September 9, 1993, duplicate samples were obtained from each well and immediately placed
in an ice-chest with ice and submitted under separate chain-of-custodies to two California-
certified laboratories for analysis of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH) using EPA method
8015, and Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene and Total Xylenes (BTEX) using EPA method 602
On November 5, 1993, ground water samples were collected with new polyethylene disposable
bailers and decanted into appropriate sampling containers provided by the analytical laboratory
The samples were immediately placed in an ice chest containing ice Samples were transported
under chain-of-custody documentation to a California Department of Health Services-certified
laboratory for analysis of TPH using modified EPA method 8015/5030 and for BTEX using EPA
method 8020 A clean 'travel blank" of distilled water was transported along with the water
samples for the purposes of detecting cross-contamination from field activities
The travel blank was analyzed for TPH as gasoline, diesel, and BTEX using the above analyses
The sampling equipment was cleaned with a solution of trisodium phosphate between each well to
minimize the potential for cross-contamination All water removed during purging operations
was placed in sealed, labeled 55-gallon drums and store on-site
`W
WALLACE•ZC JML
Re"ckd papr s AssoaAI Es INC
