Weber Ave., Yd Floor
Stockton, California 95202
t
Subject: Report on Final Abandonment of Monitoring Wells at the Former Union Ice
Facility, 425 North Union Street, Stockton - Site Cede: 241434
li Dear Ms. Duncan:
i
On.behalf of the Union Ice Limited Partnership, Farr Associates submits this letter report on
F the final abandonment of the five (5) monitoring wells at the subject site in Stockton,
California. The monitoring well abandonment (completed on April 5, 2000) and this report
complete the requirements for site case closure, following the Central Valley Regional Water
Quality Control Board's No-Further Action Letter of November 15, 1999.
The field work for well abandonment was completed under the direction of Farr Associates by
K it-Hansen of Doi los Environmental, Inc. The well abandonment procedures were completed
a in compliance with the applicable San Joaquin County guidelines and California State
Department of Water Resources Bulletin 74-81. Mr. Hansen's letter report on the completed
{ field work is attached for reference. Mr. Hansen is a registered geologist and holds a C-57
contractors license.
All. five monitoring wells were abandoned in place by pressure grouting with a neat cement
slurry. The cement slurry was thoroughly mixed with approximately 11 - 1.3 pounds of type II
Portland cement per, gallon of clean water. The grout was placed in each well with a trimmie
'hcise .from near the bottom of each well to the ground surface. The volumes of grout placed in
each well are presented on Table 1. The calculated grout volumes shown on Table 1 were
derived assuming the porosity.of-sand in the annular space of each well was 35%. As shown
s
lin Table 1, the actual volumes of grout placed in all wells exceeded the calculated estimates.
The well boxes were removed and replaced with black-dyed concrete to grade, matching the
existing asphalt surface
f
1
5856.Granite-Hills Drive • Granite Bay, California 95746 Tel.
