_ Vf
DOULOS ENVIRONMENTAL INC.
1537 PINE VALLEY CIRCLE
ROSEVILLE,,;; CA 95661
(916) 7$2-9054
Ir
May 2,2000
Farr Associates
Aitn:John M.Farr,Ph.D.,P.E.
5856 Granite Hills Drive
Granite Bay,California 95746
Y
Subject: Well Abandonment Letter,Former Union Ice Facility
425 North Union Street,Stockton,California
Dear Dr.Farr:
Farr Associates contracted with Doulos Environmental Inc:(Doulos)to abandon monitoring wells, and prepare this letter for the subject
site. The purpose of this work was to meet the requirements for case closure for the underground storage tank investigation that was
completed at this site,as requested by Lori Duncan from San Joaquin County Health Services Agency.
FIELD WORK
The work performed included: Obtaining well abandonment permits from San Joaquin County(permits enclosed);abandonment of five
monitoring wells, and preparing a letter report which presents field procedures and volumes of grout used. All activities were completed
in compliance with the San Joaquin County guidelines and California State Department of Water Resources Bulletin 74-81.
Pressure Groutine
On April 5,2000,Doulos personnel abandoned the five site monitoring wells. Prior to pressure grouting the wells, the volume of grout
needed to displace the pore space in the sand pack, and the volume of the casing was calculated. The wells were abandoned in place by
pressure grouting with a neat cement slurry. The grout was placed with a trimmie pipe from approximately five feet above the bottom of
the well to the surface. Sections of trimmie pipe were removed as the grout moved up the casing of the well. After the grout had been
trimmied to the surface, additional grout was added to maintain the grout level at the top of the casing as it pushed its way into the sand.
pack pore space. The actual volume of grout placed in each.well exceeded the previously calculated volume(see Table 1). Well covers
were removed and replaced with black dyed concrete to match existing asphalt.
If you have any questions regarding this matter please contact me at(916)782-9054.
Sincerely,
DOULOS ENVIRONMENTAL INC. (iED GFd.
Hal Hansen,R.G.#6697,C-57#730042
HAL E.
