PHS/EHD has the following comments for your consideration.
The report included the results of the October 1994 soil and groundwater investigation. Residual soil
contamination was evidenced during the installation and drilling of MW5, VB01 and SB01.
Groundwater contamination was detected initially in the sample collected on October 18, 1994;
however, none was detected in the sample collected on November 18, 1994.
PHS/EHD requested in correspondence dated July 6, 1994, that the volume of residual soil
contamination be estimated. The volume was not sufficiently estimated for PHS/EHD to evaluate the
residual soil contamination. Once the volume is estimated, the potential threat to groundwater should
be evaluated.
Please note that Table 1 should be corrected to reflect the concentration of toluene which was
detected and reported by the laboratory in the sample collected during the installation of MW5.
PHS/EHD concurs that additional groundwater sampling is warranted to verify that groundwater has
not been impacted by the residual soil contamination. Also, please submit a soil sampling plan to
evaluate any residual soil contamination which may exist in the stockpiled soil located at 1320 West
Weber.
If you have any questions or comments, please contact Mary Meays at (209) 468-0337.
Donna Heran, REHS Director
Environmental Health Division
 lYAk
Mary Meays, Senior REHS Diane M.
