i <br /> Street site; the dimensions of the stockpile are approximately 125 x 260!feet and the <br /> depth ranges from 1 to 3 feet. <br /> Twenty soil samples were collected in 40-foot intervals from a grid constructed on <br /> the soil stockpile in August, 1995. The soil samples were analyzed for benzene,•toluene, <br /> ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX) and TPH'jn the gasoline range (TPH-g), kerosene <br /> range (TPH-k), diesel range (TPH-d), and oil range (TPH-o) by American <br /> Environmental Network (AEN) Laboratory, a State-certified environmental laboratory. <br /> The results of this sampling .effort were presented with the third quarter groundwater <br /> I� <br /> sampling results from the North Union Street site (ICF Kaiser, 1995). <br /> Only one of the-20 soil samples collected had TPH concentrations,exceeding <br /> the <br /> proposed soil cleanup .levels. This soil sample (CS-13) had concentrations of 5,500 mg/kg <br /> E <br /> TPH-d and 11,000 mg/kg TPH-o, which exceed the proposed cleanup levels of 200 mg/kg <br /> and 1,000 mg/kg for TPH-d and TPH-o, respectively. Based on the grid spacing, the <br /> amount of soil represented by the sample CS-13 results is estimated to;be approximately <br /> 150 cubic yards, assuming a 15% volume expansion accompanying movement of the soil. <br /> The following section presents a plan,for remediation of the 150 cubic yards of <br /> Class II waste with TPH concentrations exceeding the proposed soil cleanup levels. <br /> 3.0 OFF-SITE DISPOSAL PLAN <br /> Off-site disposal of the petroleum-affected soil in a Class II landfill could be <br /> I <br /> completed in approximately four to six weeks. The Forward Landfill in southern <br /> Stockton has lower disposal costs than the next nearest disposal facility, the BFI'landfill <br /> k in Livermore. The Forward disposal facility, being closer to the site has the added <br /> advantage of reduced trucking costs.
