Working Safely: Know Your Product
Safety Data Sheets (SDS) provide detailed information on products and their chemical content
including potential hazards and protective measures. You can review the SDS available in your
store binder, by emailing hazardouswaste@dollartree.com, or by contacting our vendor "3E"
for assistance at 1-800-451-8346.
The quickest way to learn about the safe use and handling of a product is to check its
label. For potential hazardous product, the label typically carries one of the following "signal
words" to alert the user to potential hazards:
• "DANGER" is the most hazardous, signaling a product capable of causing serious injury or
death on its own —without exposure to heat, water or other chemicals to trigger a reaction.
• "WARNING" means the product could potentially cause serious injury or death, but would
likely require another chemical, water or heat to react.
• "CAUTION" is used on products containing chemicals that could potentially result in
moderate injury.
Many potentially hazardous products are also labeled with symbols or "pictograms" like those
shown below. These are the most common characteristics found with our retail products.
Corrosives can eat through Flammables can create fire
metal, burn skin, and create hazards as well as harmful
u
CORROSIVE vapors.
